The Revolution.

For My Father.

3. The Revolution.: Text

His hair is kept short and close to his scalp. You can see the skin that covers the mind you want to consume. You don't know what many scars this head is covering inside the thoughts of a man the world has hurt. He is your entire world. He is your greatest hero. And even when he hurt your small childish heart you still hung on his every word. And now that you are older you have begun to see the creases in his cape. He is getting older. His eyes are tired from the years he has worked to give you your life. His hands have lines & wounds that never heal. The barbed wire around his chest that was woven long before your birth seems unbreakable and like he's gotten used to the feeling of the spikes sneaking under  his skin. He is a man of his word. He is a man of his mind. His heart was broken and battered and the potter of our society, of the hood, of the struggle have recreated it and encased it in a security system that you pray you are surpassing. With every accomplishment you pray that the wire weakens. You pray you see his heart. You pray that with the joy and pride you give him that you can free him of the shackles that keep him cold. You love him and all you want is for him to be able to feel the innocence of affection.
I miss a man I never knew. -

3. The Revolution.: Quote

Dear Father,
She taught me how to miss you.
And miss you I did.
She taught me to need you.
And need you I do.
But because I am you, as much as I am her
I have learned the art that you have perfected
Of hiding how much of my soul
Belongs to you.
I will find ways around the motes you guard yourself with
If only I can get past mine.
But please know, that you are my sunshine.
You are nothing but an angel
Who has forgotten how bright he shines.
Let me show you your light. –

3. The Revolution.: Quote

Deep inside passed the sea of my forgiveness
Is the little girl who thought you did not love her.
That little girl who waited for you.
The little girl who did not understand.
That little girl on birthdays who told herself
She didn’t need you.
The one who looked for you in men
Who she didn’t even want.
But somewhere in that girl
She knew you would save her from the harrows
Of her darkness.
And you did.
And now that she’s a woman, she has started to heal.
Now that she knows it was not she that you pushed away,
Now she can forgive herself.
Now I can be free.
